Dear Friends, Family and Followers,
First and foremost, Happy New Year, and since we are currently residing in Poland, Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku!
We apologize for the 3 month hiatus in sharing our adventures with you but if there is anything that we have learned in 2016, it was the valuable lesson of living in the moment.
As a quick backstory, nearly five years ago, Dam and I dreamt of living simply in hopes of one day being able to embark on a worldly adventure to discover new people, new friends and create new and lasting memories together. On New Year’s Day of 2013 (our second wedding anniversary), we spent the holiday listing all of the exotic places which we fancied seeing one day and posted them around our home so we could begin to visualize our goals and start taking big steps to make our dreams a reality. After years of living frugally by respectively declining invitations from friends for nights out on the town in exchange for a cheap bottle of wine at home, downsizing our two bedroom apartment for a shoebox sized microstudio and working diligently to cut down any additional cost that we could, we managed to pay off the debt that we had incurred during our stint while living a commercially driven lifestyle years prior. It took two long years of saving every penny that we could, working two jobs on occasion and finally selling all of our belongings except those which we would be strapping to our backs in an 80 liter bag. Finally, after manifesting our goals for so long, in August we were ready to embark on our epic journey of a lifetime.
And boy, has it been epic!
While in Cambodia we began to realize that too much time was being spent on editing videos, uploading photos via crummy Wi-Fi and writing, then rewriting stories, instead of enjoying the beauty surrounding us and finding new adventures each day. It registered that we were on this grand adventure and were not taking in every moment and truly living in the day.
So, we put the laptops away, picked up the cameras and took many notes, which we look forward to converting into stories to share with you in the new year. Since our last communication, we got our Fall and Halloween fix at Disneyland Hong Kong, flew for 45 hours to chase lemurs in the thick forests of Madagascar while avoiding malaria, reunited with one of our best friends, Luke (whom we met in Nepal in 2015) in Indonesia for a joint surprise birthday party and waterpark extravaganza, attended a Balinese wedding of someone that we had met earlier that day, reunited with our other best friends Romy and David (whom we had met in Thailand during our first stop) in Germany for a tour of Berlin and Prague, circuited through 7 different Christmas markets throughout central Europe, spent Thanksgiving on a pilgrimage of our own as we ventured to the refugee town in Austria where Dam’s Mother and Father had lived (and where his sister was born), and finally made a new home in Wroclaw, Poland, where we will be planting roots for the foreseeable future, with breaks to continue our travels, of course.
We are so thankful for the incredible opportunities that we had during 2016: For the friends that we have made and and family that we reunited with, the adventures that we have embarked on (the good, the really good and the uh, interesting!), and most of all, being out of the United States during the election saga/soap opera! (Kidding! Kind of…)
We hope that as you all gear up to welcome in the new year, that the joy of new beginnings and the unknown will excite you and that you too will spend some time living in the moment, as often times it is easy to forget.
Cheers to you all and we hope that our paths will cross again soon in a land far, far away.
Please enjoy our favorite photos from our journey thus far!
